organic cotton

We have chosen to turn to organic cotton for the manufacture of our articles.

By using organic cotton, the impact of creating our items is reduced by 46%, including a saving of 91% in the amount of water needed compared to conventional production.

Did you know ?

  • 16% of insecticides on the market are used when growing conventional cotton
  • Approximately 2700 L of water are needed to produce a classic t-shirt
  • Cotton represents 25% of the type of textile we wear

So using organic cotton means using a natural fiber that is grown without pesticides, without GMOs, without chemicals; traditional fertilizers are replaced by compost and the fiber is not bleached with chlorine as in conventional farming and no heavy metals (such as lead and chromium) are used in the manufacturing process.

Its big "pluses":

  • it uses much less water;
  • it does not exhaust the soil;
  • it is more ethical by protecting the health of producers who are not exposed to chemicals as in traditional production;
  • products made of organic cotton fiber would be more resistant because they are not subjected to many chemical treatments.

recycled polyester

We have chosen to integrate recycled polyester into our clothing such as our windbreaker, which is made 100% from this material. It is derived from plastic that is recovered ( fabric scrap, plastic bottles ) and is reused to give it a second life.

Unlike conventional polyester, recycled polyester comes from recycled PET bottles (this is polyethylene terephthalate, a material that conditions 70% of soft drinks, fruit juices, or dilutable drinks as well as water).

For ten years, its use in the world of textiles has only increased: 14% of world production*.

Today, it is one of the few everyday consumer products that benefits from a dedicated industrial recycling channel, along with glass and aluminium*.

Did you know ?

  • 69% of the raw materials used for making textiles in the world come from fossil fuels (crude oil and natural gas);
  • 56% of the production of synthetic fibers made up in the world are polyester fibers;
  • 15% of the world's plastic production comes from the textile industry.

Our different labels

There are different eco-labels to certify the responsibility of textile products and their supply chain. The two safest labels are Eco tex and GOTS .

GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD

To guarantee our commitments, we work with cotton labeled GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) : at BasqueTouch, all our fabrics are labeled GOTS , recognized worldwide since 2008, it has the most demanding specifications on the textile market . We use it on each of our products.

The GOTS label criteria include environmental requirements , fiber quality , but also health and social requirements. It certifies in particular:

  • the origin of textiles;
  • responsibility for the production process (harvesting, manufacturing, confection, labelling).

GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) not only certifies the recycled content of a product but also verifies compliance with environmental and social criteria.

For the labeling of GRS products, the minimum of recycled fibers is set at 50%. The requirements in terms of social and environmental matters are very stringent: controlled water and energy consumption and production of greenhouse gases, implementation of a waste management system, control of waste water, but also a ban on forced labor, child labor, freedom of association and recognition of the right to collective bargaining and many other requirements to be found below.

EVE VEGAN

The EVE VEGAN® label (Expertise Vegan Europe) guarantees consumers compliance with the fundamental principles of veganism according to criteria valid throughout the world, such as respect for animals, the environment and human health. This is a French organization ( Vegan France ) for the control and labeling of vegan products which issues certificates of compliance with vegan criteria for products that comply with them.
The products that obtain the Eve Vegan label are guaranteed free of substances of animal origin both in their ingredients and in their packaging and packaging. They are also guaranteed without animal testing.
The label certification process complies with international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 17065.

OEKO-TEX

Oeko-Tex 100 is partly an eco-label. The finished product may not contain any pesticide residues or heavy metals such as lead or cadmium. There are also criteria for color stability and washfastness.

This label does not take into account the maximum emission standards in the air and water during the production of the textile. Genetically modified organisms are not prohibited. Harmful production processes are also not prohibited.

Oeko-Tex 100 does not take into account the origin of the textile and therefore makes no distinction between organic and non-organic fabrics
